WAC Menís Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – UT Arlington’s Clayton Vaughn and Texas State’s Darian Brown were named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of March 11-17.
Vaughn, a junior from Sulphur Springs, Texas (Judson H.S.), won the 100m at the TCU Invitational by .18 over a field of 27 others with a wind aided time of 10.13. His time comes in as the second-fasted in school history and the fastest in the WAC this season. Vaughn beat TCU’s Ramone Baily (10.31), who both ran in the first of four heats. The wind (4.3) was just over the allowable mark (4.0) or it would be rated as the top time in the nation thus far this season.
Brown, a sophomore from Killeen, Texas (Ellison H.S.), was first among college athletes in the discus with throw a 58.11m (190-08). His distance currently ranks top in the WAC and fourth in the NCAA, setting a personal record as well. Brown scored his second top-finish of the TCU Invitational in the hammer throw with a throw of 55.11m (180-10), placing second in the WAC.
Other track nominees included: Louisiana Tech junior Dennis Richardson, Seattle U senior Zach Stanfield and Texas State senior Timothy Young.
