The University of Denver women's tennis team is ranked No. 58 in the latest ITA poll ... the Pioneers last defeated BYU 6-1 on Friday, March 8, but fell to Oregon 5-2 on Saturday, March 10 ... Pioneer senior Steffi Rath was named WAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the second consecutive time after winning both of her doubles and singles matches over the weekend ... the Pioneers begin conference play, traveling to UT Arlington on Thursday, Mar. 21.
IDAHO (6-7, 0-0)
The Idaho women's tennis team got its fifth win in its last seven matches, a 7-0 victory over Xavier of Louisiana ... Idaho improves to 6-7 on the season with the win ... the Vandals got on the board with an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, an 8-6 win at No. 2 and an 8-5 win at No. 3 ... Idaho will dive into Western Athletic Conference play in its next five matches, as it faces Denver and UT Arlington in Arlington, Texas on March 22 and 23 before facing UTSA, New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech on April 5, 6 and 7 in San Antonio, Texas.
LOUISIANA TECH (5-3, 0-0)
The Louisiana Tech tennis team has found its groove after winning its fourth straight match, a 4-3 edging of Northwestern State ... freshmen Alexandra Starkova and Joanna Nalborska joining forces at the No. 2 spot for their third straight doubles win, an 8-3 decision over Polina Konop and Natalya Krutova ... Manoela Chiacchio won her singles match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 ... the Lady Techsters regained the lead again thanks to Taly Merker at the No. 5 slot with a 6-1, 6-7 (7-3), 6-0 win ... LA Tech will host a spring blast mixer at 4:30 p.m. at the Louisiana Tech Tennis Complex.
NEW MEXICO STATE (4-7, 0-0)
NM State worked for its third straight win at the NM State Tennis Center with a 4-3 win over I-10 rival UTEP on Friday, March 15 ... UTEP nabbed the doubles point, but the Aggies battled for a comeback in singles play for the win ... continuing on her hot streak for the Aggies, Annemieke Witte moves to 7-3 in singles play with her fifth consecutive win ... Ros-Polly Nguyen also helped the Aggies by stretching her record to 7-3 this season as she won her match at No. 5, 6-0,6-2 ... NM State switches gears and looks at four straight road matches to open WAC play ... NM State meets San Jose State on Wednesday, March 20, before facing Texas State, Louisiana Tech and Seattle March 22-24.
SAN JOSE STATE (8-4, 0-0)
San Jose State University won all nine matches in a 7-0 shutout over Southern Utah ... the Spartans (8-4), was pushed to just one tiebreaker at number-two doubles as they posted their third dual match win in their last four outings ... Jessica Willett and Amber Walker, playing together for the first time this season, trailed Southern Utah's Veronika Rogova and Madeline Skaras, 7-0, but came back to tie the match at 7-7 and won the tiebreaker, 7-4, for an 8-7 match victory ... Chau Truong moved into second-place on the San Jose State list for combined singles and doubles victories at 113 with a win at number-three doubles teaming with Julianna Bacelar and a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at number-two singles over Southern Utah's Veronica Rogova ... San Jose State returns to action, March 20, when the Spartans open WAC play hosting New Mexico State.
SEATTLE U (3-5, 0-0)
The Redhawks' most successful singles player in dual competition is Lindsey Newman at 5-3 ... Newman and Sarah Lucas both have dual records of 5-3, are 5-2 playing together at No. 2 doubles ... the match against North Dakota previously scheduled for March 11 at 3:30 p.m. is cancelled and will not be made up ... this leaves the Redhawks with just one more home match, an April 19 contest with Washington State University.
TEXAS STATE (4-4, 1-0)
The Texas State women's tennis team put up a tough fight, but No. 26 Rice held on for a 4-0 victory over the Bobcats at the Galleria Tennis and Athletic Club on Sunday ... Texas State began the day dropping in a No. 2 doubles match when Monica Pieratt and Katy Collins suffered an 8-1 loss against Katie Gater and Liat Zimmermann ... in singles action, Rachel Baldree suffered a 6-4, 6-0 loss against Kimberly Anicete in the No. 4 match ... The loss drops Texas State's record to 4-4 overall this season ... the Bobcats will look to improve their 1-0 record against WAC teams when Texas State plays Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State and Seattle.
UT ARLINGTON (1-7, 0-0)
The UT Arlington women's tennis team fell 4-2 to the No. 53 Columbia Lions Monday, March 18 ... the Mavericks were able to jump ahead early winning the doubles point ... Katarina Dikosavljevic took on the No. 61 nationally ranked Nicole Bartnik at the No. 1 singles position, but couldn't compete against competitive Bartnik.
UTSA (5-6, 0-1)
Stephen F. Austin rolled to a 6-1 victory against UTSA in a battle between former Southland Conference foes on Thursday ... the Ladyjacks swept all three doubles contests and won five of the six singles tilts to secure the win ... the Roadrunners picked up their only point at No. 6 singles when Kavya Menon netted a straight-sets victory (7-6, 6-1) against Laura Servise ... UTSA will return to action on Sunday, March 24, against Abilene Christian.
UTAH STATE (3-5, 0-0)
Utah State women's tennis will hit the road to take on in-state rival Weber State for the second time this season on Tuesday, Mar. 19 ... leading the Aggies will be sophomore McKenzie Davis, who is currently 5-2 in the No. 1 singles position and 3-2 in the first doubles position with senior partner Jaci West ... West is currently 4-4 in the No. 2 singles position ... after this match the Aggies will continue their road trip when they take on Western Athletic Conference rivals UT Arlington on, Saturday, March 23 in Arlington, Texas.
