WAC Tennis Players of the Week Announced
Perevoshchikov, a sophomore from Izheusk, Russia, went 2-0 at No. 1 singles against opponents from ranked teams during the week, and split a pair of doubles matches. At the top singles spot against No. 40 Oregon, Perevoshchikov won a marathon 7-6(14) decision in the first set before clinching the point with a 6-3 second-set win, as Idaho narrowly fell 4-3 to the No. 40 team in the nation. Against No. 73 St. Mary's he won another tough match, a three-setter by the score of 6-7, 6-1, 7-6. Perevoshchikov remains undefeated in singles play this spring, with a 12-0 record all at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
A senior from Hochst, Austria, Rath played went 2-0 in singles last weekend in Eugene, Ore. Rath defeated BYU's Aubrey Paul, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 6 singles spot. Denver held off BYU in the neutral site match, 6-1. On Sunday, Rath picked up the Pioneers only singles victory, defeating Rabea Stueckemann 6-7 (1), 6-3, (10-7). The Pioneers dropped the match to the Ducks, 5-2. In both her double matches she and partner Sophia Bergner competed at the No. 1 spot. Bergner and Rath won 8-4 over the Cougar's duo and 8-5 over Oregon.
