WAC Tennis Players of the Week Announced
Ramirez, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela (IEA El Penon), went undefeated in the Aggies first home weekend. He and partner Marc Westgate helped the Aggies to both doubles points against Northern Arizona and WAC rival UT Arlington in the No. 1 spot. In singles play, Ramirez swept his match at the top singles spot in straight sets both days. His 6-2, 6-2 win over Yauheni Yakauleu helped the Aggies to their first conference win of the season. He also won at the No. 1 spot against Northern Arizona's Shaun Waters, 7-6, 6-1.
A senior from Hochst, Austria, Rath played to a 4-0 weekend helping the Pioneers to wins over Wyoming and No. 73 Princeton. Rath defeated the Cowgirls' Christa Gecheva, 6-1, 6-1, on Friday. On Sunday Rath faced off against No. 73 Princeton's Emily Hahn. Rath took the match in three sets, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3. Both singles matches were played at the No. 6 spot. In the weekend doubles play, Rath went 2-0 in with partner Sophia Bergner. They won in No. 1 doubles against Wyoming's tandem of Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova, 9-8(3) and Princeton's pair of Joan Cannon and Katie Goepel, 8-5.
