WAC NOTES

DENVER (3-5, 0-0)
The University of Denver's No. 53 men's tennis team fell to No. 41 Northwestern 5-1 on Friday ... Fabio Biasion returned to the lineup partnering with freshman Henry Craig in the No. 2 doubles spot ... the Pioneers were unable to win any doubles flights, giving Northwestern an early 1-0 lead ... Jens Vorkefeld played No.1 singles, but fell to No. 114 Spencer Wolf, 6-1, 6-7, 10-8 ... Denver fell to Wichita State, 4-2 on Sunday ... Vorkefeld played in the No.1 singles spot but fell to Matheus Pereiria, 6-3, 6-4 ... Henry Craig claimed a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Wichita State's Tomislav Gregurovic in No. 3 singles play. 

IDAHO (9-0, 1-0)
After 9-0 start to the season, including five 7-0 victories, the Idaho men's tennis team has earned a No. 57 national ranking ... it is the first time this season the Vandals have cracked the top 75 ... the Vandals will get opportunities to move up in the rankings with four matches against teams currently ranked in the top 75 remaining this season ... Idaho faces No. 30 BYU on April 12, No. 45 Oregon on March 8, No. 62 Oklahoma State on April 2 and No. 65 Denver on April 21 ... Idaho's 9-0 start is its best start to a season in at least 20 years ... The Vandals return to action this weekend when they face Montana and Montana State in Missoula, Mont., on March 2.

NEW MEXICO STATE (4-3, 0-0)
The Aggie men's tennis team closed in on a 6-1 win over St. Mary's on Friday afternoon after sweeping all three doubles matches for the early point ... the Aggies went on to win on five of the six singles court on the day ... what would have been the Aggies WAC season opener against the UTSA Roadrunners was cancelled after the weather failed to let up on Saturday, Feb. 9. ... NM State now takes the rest of February off before meeting Northern Arizona at home on March 1... the Aggies then look to open conference play against UT Arlington on March 2. 

SEATTLE U (0-9, 0-0)
Freshman Will Top and Zack Kosanke lead the team with four singles wins apiece ... Kosanke also as the best record on the squad, going 4-4 at No. 3 singles ... Kevin Lynch and Jason Bediones have the best doubles record as a pair in the dual season ... together they've gone 3-4 at No. 2 doubles ... the Redhawks now have a month break before their next match, a conference showdown against Idaho in Seattle ... the contest with the Vandals will be SU's first conference match since the team was reestablished in 2008.  

UT ARLINGTON (1-3, 0-0)
No. 15 Texas shutout UT Arlington men's tennis 7-0 Thursday ... the Longhorns started string winning all three doubles and headed into singles competition with a 1-0 lead over the Mavericks ... Soren Goritzka was the first Maverick to be eliminated from singles competition as the senior loss a quick battle at the No. 2 position to Sudanwa Sitaram (6-1, 6-10) ... Marek Pesicka was shutout on the first set, but fought hard in the second set to keep the score close, but ultimately fell 6-0, 7-5 at the No. 4 position ... The men are back on the court Friday, March 1 in Las Cruces, New Mexico as the Mavericks take on Western New Mexico at 2 p.m. CT.

UTSA (5-3, 0-0)
UTSA was able to get back on the winning track with a 5-2 victory at Lipscomb on Saturday ... the Roadrunners rebounded from Friday's 6-1 loss at No. 47 Middle Tennessee by winning two of three doubles tilts and four of six singles contests against the Bisons ... Martin Ayala and Diogo Casa improved to a perfect 8-0 on the year at No. 1 doubles following an 8-4 triumph against David Salazar and Oliver Strecker ... Meanwhile, Ayala, Casa, Tyler Brown and David Kelleher all picked up wins in singles action ... UTSA will continue its season-long seven-match road trip on Friday, March 1, when it begins play at the 47th Annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions in Corpus Christi.

UTAH STATE (4-7, 1-0)
Utah State men's tennis defeated Montana State-Billings, 5-0 ... Utah State won all three doubles matches securing the point and won all four of the singles matches that were played ... Due to inclement weather, the teams agreed not to play the final two singles matches ... Sven Poslusny defeated Navin Marimuthu in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) ... earlier in the week, Utah State men's tennis was defeated by Montana State, 4-3, Friday in Bozeman, Mont. ... Utah State returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 23 when it hosts Lamar at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
