DALLAS BAPTIST’S MCALPINE NAMED WAC HITTER OF THE WEEK
Dallas Baptist catcher Duncan McAlpine has been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for February 18-24.
McAlpine, a senior from North Richland Hills, Texas (Birdville HS), helped the Patriots to a 4-0 record last week with a win at No. 10 Rice and three wins at home against Mississippi Valley State. McAlpine hit .462 (6-for-13) for the week with six RBI and six runs scored. In the win at 10th-ranked Rice, McAlpine recorded a hit, an RBI and a walk. In the win over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday, McAlpine hit for the cycle as the senior tripled, doubled, singled and then homered in the seventh inning to cap off the feat in the win. He also recorded an impressive .923 slugging percentage on the week with 12 total bases.

DALLAS BAPTIST’S JOHANSEN NAMED WAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Dallas Baptist right hander Jake Johansen have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for February 18-24.
Johansen, a junior from Allen, Texas (Allen HS), took a no-hit bid into the ninth inning against Mississippi Valley State and recorded one out before allowing an infield single to the second batter in the ninth. Johansen exited the game Friday with a runner on first and one out in the ninth, but not before recording 10 strikeouts while walking only two batters. He gave up only one hit and allowed no earned runs in the 8-1 victory.

WAC TOURNAMENT HEADS TO GRAND PRAIRIE’S QUIKTRIP PARK
After succesful tournaments in Mesa, Ariz., the past three years, the WAC baseball tournament will now head to Grand Prairie, Texas this May. The event will be played at QuikTrip Park, home of the Grand Prairie Air Hogs. The Air Hogs play in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. The cities of Grand Prairie and Arlington will host the tournament with the winner earning the WAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The top eight teams from the WAC’s regular season standings will advance to the tournament. The brand-new QuikTrip Park at Grand Prairie located in the heart of Grand Prairie’s Entertainment District directly between Lone Star Park and Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, TX. The $25 million venue, seats 5,500 guests and features 13 luxury suites. Amenities at the stadium include: The AirHogs Pool and Party Deck, the 17,000 sq. ft. Grand Prairie Wide World of Parks Playground, the FieldHouse Grill & Bar, the 3rd Base Party Deck, the Coors Light Officers Club and the Admirals Club. QuikTrip Park hosts special events such as live boxing, concerts, car shows, festivals and corporate events.

CSU Bakersfield (4-3, 0-0 WAC)
CSU Bakersfield went 2-2 at home against Hofstra last week ... the Runners dropped game won 0-1 before rebounding to win game two 7-3 ... CSUB then lost game three 6-4, and then won the series finale 5-1 ... Garrett Pierce hit .467 over the four games, collecting seven hits, one double, two RBI, two walks and two runs scored ... Dylan Christensen hit .462 with six hits, three runs scored, one triple, five walks and a pair of RBI ... Cael Brockmeyer led the team with three RBI as he hit .353 with six hits, two runs scored and a pair of walks ... Scott Brattvet worked 8.0 innings in his appearance, giving up only on earned run with five strikeouts as he registered the win ... Jonathan Montoya also picked up a win on the mound after working 6.0 innings without giving up an earned run ... Montoya gave up only two hits and had a pair of strikeouts ... CSUB hosts Fresno State and Long Island this week.

Dallas Baptist went a perfect 4-0 last week ... the team opened the week with a 6-4 win over 10th-ranked Rice on the road ... the team then swept a three-game series at home against Mississippi Valley State by scores of 18-1, 8-1 and 24-3 ... Duncan McAlpine hit .462 for the week against Rice and Mississippi Valley State, including a cycle on Saturday against MVSU ... the senior tripled, doubled, singled and then homered in the seventh inning to cap off the feat ... McAlpine slugged an astounding .923 on the week ... Jake Johansen took a no-hit bid into the ninth inning against MVSU and recorded one out before allowing an infield single to the second batter in the ninth ... Johansen exited the contest with a runner on first and one out in the ninth, but not before recording 10 strikeouts while walking only two batters ... this week, DBU hosts TCU before traveling to Texas A&M CC for a three-game series.
Louisiana Tech (2-5, 0-0 WAC)
Tech defeated UALR, 6-3, Tuesday for its first win of the season in Little Rock before returning home to face Oral Roberts in a three-game home-opening series ... the Bulldogs took the first game of the series Friday night 2-0 behind an 11-strikeout performance by Tech sophomore right hander Phil Maton ... the Bulldogs led 3-2 in the second game of the series Saturday before a three-run home run by Oral Roberts gave the Golden Eagles the win to tie the series at one apiece ... Oral Roberts won the rubber match Sunday 9-3 to give them a series victory in Ruston ... Louisiana Tech travels to play Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday before playing a three game series at McNeese State Friday-Sunday.
New Mexico State (3-4, 0-0 WAC)
The Aggies are now 3-4 on the year after going 1-2 in the Keith LeClair Classic hosted by East Carolina ... NM State held Ohio scoreless in its opener of the tournament, defeating the Bobcats 7-0 before falling 3-2 to Illinois and 5-1 to ECU ... senior Bobby LeCount currently leads NM State offensively hitting .364 on the year, while Michael Paulson tallied two home runs against Ohio ... starting pitcher Adam Mott went 7.0 innings and struck out five batters while giving up only one walk, all while facing 25 batters to help NM State to its first shutout of the year ... NM State defeated Ohio 7-0 as Mott pitched with efficiency and now has a 1.80 ERA on the year in two appearances (15.0 IP) ... he has a team-high 12 strikeouts this so far this season ... NMSU’s game at NC State on Tuesday has been cancelled due to weather ... NMSU plays at NC State on Wednesday before a series at Wake Forest starting.
Sacramento State (3-4, 0-0 WAC)
Sacramento State went 2-2 in a four-game series at home against UC Riverside ... the Hornets dropped game one by a score of 2-1 before picking up the win in game two, 4-3 ... Sacramento State then lost game three 7-6 before winning the series finale 7-4 ... Dane Fujinaka led the Hornets at the plate as hit batted .385 with five hits and two runs scored ... David Del Grande hit .313 with five hits, three runs scored, two RBI and a walk ... Nathan Lukes also hit .313 with five hites, three runs, two RBI and a pair of walks ... Scotty Burcham led the team with four RBI over the four games ... Tanner Mendonca was impressive on the mound, pitching 8.0 innings with six strikeouts while giving up only two earned runs ... this week, Sacramento State hosts Nevada on Tuesday before welcoming future WAC foe Utah Valley for a three-game series.
San Jose State (2-5, 0-0 WAC)
San Jose State went 0-4 in four road games last week ... the Spartans fell 22-4 on Wednesday to UC Davis and then were swept by No. 10 Arizona in Tucson, Ariz.in a three-game set ... designated hitter Tim Quiery went 8-for-11 with three runs and four RBI in the three-game series against 10th-ranked Arizona … he also swiped two bags … Quiery hit a game tying RBI-single with two outs in the fifth inning on Friday night … he finished the week 4-for-5 with runners in scoring position ... D.J. Slaton carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of game three against Arizona, before a single broke it up ... San Jose State returns home to face Bay Area foe San Francisco on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. and then hits the road for a weekend series at UC Santa Barbara.
Seattle U (1-6, 0-0 WAC)
Seattle University opened its home schedule Tuesday against Portland, falling behind 6-1 before scoring three runs in the ninth inning and bringing the game-winning run to the plate, but the Pilots held on for a 6-4 victory ... the Redhawks then traveled to Cal Poly for a weekend series ... one week after scoring 32 runs in three games, Seattle U was held to two runs in the three-game series as the Mustangs swept the weekend (2-1, 1-0, 4-1) ... it is the lowest run total in a three-game set for Seattle U since the rebirth of the baseball program in 2010 ... Sean Narby led the team in hitting with a .357 batting average (5-for-14) ... the pitching was improved, as the staff combined for a 1.64 ERA ... however, seven errors led to seven unearned runs during the week ... Seattle U will host BYU in a two-game midweek series before heading back to California to face Long Beach State in a three-game weekend series.
UT Arlington (5-2, 0-0 WAC)
UT Arlington was 2-2 last week and improved to 5-2 overall after winning its second consecutive series against Northeastern ... the Mavs lead the Western Athletic Conference in ERA with 3.00 ... Justin Copeland had a four RBI performance against Northeastern with two hits in the 10-8 win ... Copeland was one of four Mavericks to have a hit in a stretch in which UTA had four consecutive hits to tie, and then take the lead in the game ... he had a hit each of UTA’s four games last week – one at Texas, and three against Northeastern ... Brad Vachon pitched seven scoreless innings in his first start of the season, strike out five ... the Mavericks fell 2-1 at Texas on Tuesday and went 2-1 in the series against Northeastern ... the Mavericks face Illinois and Houston Baptist this week in the UT Arlington Hilton Invitational beginning on Friday.
Texas State (2-5, 0-0 WAC)
After a loss to Baylor in the midweek game, Texas State rebounded with a 6-1 victory over Houston Friday ... the Bobcats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and built it up to a 5-1 lead by the end of the second ... behind nine strikeouts from Kyle Finnegan and a 3-for-4 day from designated hitter Cody Lovejoy, Texas State went on to win, 6-1 ... Kyle Finnegan finished with more strikeouts than the entire Houston staff in the series opener, 9-7 ... Houston only had 18 at bats and Finnegan struck out nine of them ... he led Texas State to its only victory in the weekend series ... in the second and third games of the series, Texas State fell, 1-0, and 4-2, but will look to rebound in the midweek game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday before returning home ot host Northern Kentucky for the weekend series.
UTSA (5-3, 0-0 WAC)
UTSA posted a 1-3 record last week ... the team opened the week with a 19-6 rout of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Wednesday ... however, the Birds were swept in a three-game set at Louisiana-Lafayette last weekend and were outscored 29-13 ... it marked the first time UTSA had been swept in a series since Sam Houston State accomplished the feat last year (March 30-April 1) ... senior outfielder Daniel Rockett continued his sizzling start by hitting .421 with three doubles, a triple, a homer and eight RBIs ... junior RJ Perucki only had five hits last week, but two were home runs and he drove in 11 ... left-hander Nolan Trabanino picked up his first career win with five scoreless innings of relief against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi ... UTSA hosts Texas-Pan American in a mid-week game on Tuesday and Nebraska-Omaha, Penn State and Stephen F. Austin in their annual UTSA Classic this weekend at Wolff Stadium.
