WAC NOTES

DENVER (3-3, 0-0)
University of Denver No. 52 men's tennis team defeated Utah, 4-3 ... No. 47 Enej Bonin defeated Dmytro Mamedov 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 Singles play ... Freshman Henry Craig claimed the decisive match with a 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 win over Ben Tasevac ... the Pioneers were unable to claim any doubles matches, but tough singles play gave them the deciding edge over Utah. Denver men's tennis team fell to No. 50 Brigham Young University, 5-1 ... the Pioneers return home for their next match on Friday, Feb. 22 against Northwestern.   

IDAHO (7-0, 1-0)
 The Idaho men's tennis team continued is unblemished spring season with dominating victories over Utah State and Weber State Saturday, improving to 7-0 on the season ... the Vandals didn't lose a set in either victory ... the pair of 7-0 sweeps were Idaho's third and fourth in seven matches this season ... Marius Cirstea and Abid Akbar won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles again against Weber State and Utah State ... the Vandals made it a clean sweep with straight-set wins at all six singles spots to move to 1-0 in the WAC.

NEW MEXICO STATE (4-3, 0-0)
The Aggie men's tennis team closed in on a 6-1 win over St. Mary's on Friday afternoon after sweeping all three doubles matches for the early point ... the Aggies went on to win on five of the six singles court on the day ... what would have been the Aggies WAC season opener against the UTSA Roadrunners was cancelled after the weather failed to let up on Saturday, Feb. 9. ... NM State now takes the rest of February off before meeting Northern Arizona at home on March 1... the Aggies then look to open conference play against UT Arlington on March 2. 

SEATTLE U (0-9, 0-0)
Freshman Will Top and Zack Kosanke lead the team with four singles wins apiece ... Kosanke also as the best record on the squad, going 4-4 at No. 3 singles ... Kevin Lynch and Jason Bediones have the best doubles record as a pair in the dual season ... together they've gone 3-4 at No. 2 doubles ... the Redhawks now have a month break before their next match, a conference showdown against Idaho in Seattle ... the contest with the Vandals will be SU's first conference match since the team was reestablished in 2008.  

UT ARLINGTON (1-2, 0-0)
The UT Arlington men's tennis team fell 7-0 to the No. 18 Baylor Bears ... The 18th-ranked Bears started the match strong winning doubles at the No. 3 and No. 2 position, forcing No. 1 doubles to remain unfinished ... Soren Goritzka was the lone Maverick who came close to winning a set during singles competition ... the senior fell 6-3, 7-3 at the No. 2 position to Tony Lupieri ... UT Arlington is back in action Thursday, Feb. 21 when the team travels to Austin to take on Texas.

UTSA (4-2, 0-0)
UTSA split a pair of non-conference matches last week ... the Roadrunners were edged by Nevada, 4-3, last friday and earned a 6-1 victory over lamar two days later ... Diogo casa collected wins in all four of his matches last week ... the freshman won twice at No. 2 singles and teamed with Martin Ayala to stay unbeaten at No. 1 doubles ... UTSA will next travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face Middle Tennessee, Feb. 22.

UTAH STATE (3-6, 1-0)
Utah State men’s tennis posted a 1-1 dual record as it defeated Mesa State, 7-0, and lost to Idaho, 7-0 ... In its first match of the day against WAC foe Idaho, Utah State lost all six of its singles matches in straight sets ... Sven Poslusny fell to Dmitry Perevoshchikov at the No. 1 position (6-3, 6-4) ... In its second match of the day against Colorado Mesa, Utah State won five of the six singles matches in straight sets ... Poslusny took down Jordan Lyden in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 1 spot  ... in doubles action, the Aggies won all three matches securing the point ... Utah State returns to action next weekend as it plays at Montana State on Friday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m., and will then face MSU-Billings in Bozeman on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 9 a.m.
