WAC Golfers of the Week Awarded
Higham, a junior from Shelley, Idaho (Shelley HS), finished in a three-way tie for first place with a 2-under par 142 (70-72) at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Southern Utah. Higham tied for the first round lead with a 2-under par 70. In the playoff, he was eliminated on the fourth hole, but not before holing a 50-yard chip to make par on the previous hole. It was the first time an Aggie golfer had at least tied for first in a tournament since the fall of 1996. The 96-player field included a total of four WAC teams.
De Guzman, a freshman from Quezon City, Philippines (Reedley International School), tied for second place at the Peg Barnard Invitational hosted by Stanford last week. De Guzman shot a 2-under par 140 (72-68) for the two rounds, her best finish for the Spartans. After a double bogey on her first hole of the second round, De Guzman recorded eight straight pars before making five birdies over the last nine holes to post the second best round of the tournament. San Jose State finished in fifth place at the 13-team tournament.
