The University of Denver women's tennis team fell to Kansas Friday, 4-3 ... the Pioneers battled Kansas in all three doubles matches but the Jayhawks won all three to take the 1-0 lead before starting singles play ... Emma Isberg beat Maria Belen Luduena 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 ... on Sunday Denver defeated No. 64 Wichita State, 4-3 ... the Pioneers claimed two of three doubles matches ... Sophia Bergner defeated Wichita State's Lucia Kovalova 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles ... Denver returns home Friday, Feb. 8 to take on Colorado.
IDAHO (0-4, 0-0)
The Idaho women's tennis team dropped three matches over the weekend, losing 7-0 to No. 66 Oregon, 6-1 to Portland and 5-2 to Portland State ... Idaho's Constance Alexander and Belena Barcenilla got an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles against Oregon, but the Ducks won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and 8-3 at No. 3 to win the point ... Victoria Lozano gave Idaho its best shot at a singles victory, but fell 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1, as Oregon won all six singles matches in straight sets ... the Vandals won the doubles point against Portland, as Lozano and Almudena Sanz won 8-4 at No. 1 and Alexander and Barcenilla won 8-5 at No. 2 ... against Portland State, the Vandals won in straight sets at the top two singles spots, as Lozano won 6-2, 6-4 and Sanz won 6-2, 6-3 ... the Vandals return to action with a trip to Boise to face Idaho State on Feb. 9 and Boise State on Feb. 10.
LOUISIANA TECH (1-1, 0-0)
Senior Vivian ten Dolle lost the first set 6-1 at the No. 1 singles spot, but bounded back to win the second and third set 6-2, 6-0 to remain undefeated on the season ... after falling behind 3-0 with the loss of teh doubles point and the first two singles matches, LA Tech responded with a win at the No. 3 singles spot by Melanie Urvoy (6-3, 6-2) ... the Lady Techsters pushed all three remaining matches to a third set after dropping the first set in each of them.
NEW MEXICO STATE (0-0, 0-0)
The New Mexico State women's tennis team opens the 2013 spring season with three duals on the road in Las Vegas, Nev. this weekend ... opening the weekend against host UNLV on Feb. 8, the team meets Weber State the following day and wraps the weekend against Pacific on Sunday, Feb. 10 ... each match is slated for an 11:00 a.m. PT start.
SAN JOSE STATE (4-2, 0-0)
The San Jose State University women's tennis team had five wins in singles play and came away with a 5-2 win in a non-conference dual match against Cal Poly ... Klaudia Boczova defeated Louise Oxnevad in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 and now has a five-match winning streak at the number-one singles ... SJSU completed went 2-1 on the weekend ... the Spartans defeated San Francisco (5-2) before dropping to UC Santa Barbara (4-3) ... the Spartans play again on February 9 at Santa Clara University in a non-conference match.
SEATTLE U (2-3, 0-0)
The Redhawks earned their first two dual wins of the season this weekend ... before Sunday's match at Boise State, Lindsey Newman had won three straight singles matches ... Seattle U is undefeated against both Idaho State and Weber State since the reestablishment of the women's tennis program in 2008 ... the Redhawks have taken down Idaho State four times in three seasons and Weber State three times in two seasons.
TEXAS STATE (2-0, 0-0)
Texas State opened its spring schedule winning its first two dual maches of the spring season with a 7-0 victory over Texas-Pan American and a 6-1 victory over St. Edward's ... Texas State won all six of their double matches over the weekend ... despite opening the season with three new tandems ... the 2-0 record marks the first time the Bobcats have opened a season winning their first two matches since 2010 ... Texas State will play host to Houston on Feb. 10 in San Marcos.
UT ARLINGTON (0-1, 0-0)
The UT Arlington women's tennis team begin its season with a 4-1 loss to Old Dominion Sunday ... the Mavericks began the day winning the doubles point after the No. 2 and No. 3 pairings defeated their opponents ... Old Dominion fought back during singles, winning the first three matches at the No. 3, 5 and 6 positions ... The women will be back on the court Saturday, Feb. 9 as they take on No. 30 Rice in Houston.
UTSA (2-0, 0-0)
UTSA opened the springs season with back-to-back victories over Laredo CC and Texas-Pan American last weekend ... the Roadrunners swept the Palominos in the season opener and then knocked off the Broncs, 5-2 a day later ... UTSA's singles players started the year a combined 10-2, while the doubles teams were a perfect 5-0.
UTAH STATE (1-0, 0-0)
Utah State women's tennis lost its first match of the 2013 season Saturday as it fell at BYU, 6-1. With the loss, USU is now 1-1 on the season ... McKenzie Davis was the only Aggie to win a match against the Cougars as she posted a three-set win at No. 1 singles against Morgan Anderson (7-5, 3-6, 6-1) ... in doubles play, Davis and Jaci West fell to Sheehan-Dizon and Nicolette Tran at the first position, 8-7 (4) ... Utah State's women will return to action on Friday, February 8 when it hosts Portland State.
