DALLAS--(DBU Media Relations) Following a 2012 season in which he hit .374 with 13 homeruns and 58 RBI, Dallas Baptist's Boomer Collins has been named to the 2013 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pre-Season All-American First Team.
Collins joins 17 other student-athletes in making up the first of three teams voted upon by members of the NCBWA. Many of the stars on the three-team pre-season list will appear on the first ballot for the 27th annual Dick Howser Trophy, presented by Easton Foundation and the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Area Chamber of Commerce and voted upon by NCBWA membership. The Howser Trophy will presented in Omaha, Nebraska, in June 2013, just before the start of the 66th annual NCAA World Series.
Collins, a senior from Waxahachie, Texas, scored 62 runs during last season's campaign, the second-most amongst NCBWA Pre-Season First Teamers. His talents helped lead the Patriots to the championship round of the NCAA Waco Regional and earned him a place on postseason All-American squads. After spending the summer in the Northwoods League, Collins returns to Dallas to man centerfield in 2013 for Head Coach Dan Heefner and the Patriots of Dallas Baptist.
Dallas Baptist will open 2013 in the brand new, state-of-the-art Horner Ballpark against Creighton on February 15.
