Boise, ID – The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl announced today the Utah State Aggies (10-2) have accepted an invitation to play in its game on Saturday, Dec.15, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. MST in Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho.  The Bowl will also feature a top selection from the Mid-American Conference.

Utah State earned the Western Athletic Conference championship in dramatic fashion with a 48-41 overtime win over No. 19 Louisiana Tech last Saturday (Nov. 17).  The Aggies have produced one of the finest seasons in school history, earning their best record since 1961 (9-1-1). Utah State’s win over Louisiana Tech marked the first-ever victory over a ranked team on the road, as well as the first win over a ranked opponent in over 20 years.

The Aggies will represent the Western Athletic Conference for the second-straight year at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The 2011 bowl game ended in a 24-23 loss to Ohio University for the Aggies.  Overall, this will be Utah State’s eighth bowl appearance in the program’s history.

“We’re thrilled to accept the invitation to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl for the second year in a row,” said Scott Barnes, Utah State’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.  “The Bowl is a great opportunity for our team to play in a great postseason game and the proximity couldn’t be better for our fans.”

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl is the second game of the entire bowl calendar and the only one in its timeslot.  The Bowl will be telecast nationally on ESPN and broadcast on ESPN Radio.  Six of the previous eight games have been decided on the last drive, with an average score of 31-24 over the past 15 Bowls.

“Utah State has had an impressive season and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl is a rewarding way to close out,” said Jeff Hurd, Commissioner of the Western Athletic Conference. “They are a strong representative for the WAC and we are delighted at their opportunity to play in the Bowl.”

“We are excited to welcome back Utah State and its fans to our game,” said Kevin McDonald, Executive Director, Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.   “Utah State had an outstanding season and sits just five points away from an undefeated season. We are eager to host a team of this quality and are excited to match the Aggies against a terrific MAC team. ”
