WAC NOTES

CSU Bakersfield (2-0)
For the second week in a row freshman Michaela Paige won two events as CSU Bakersfield defeated Pacific 156-132 in a women's swimming dual ... Paige earned victories in the 1000 freestyle (10:35.97) and the 200 butterfly (2:06.22) ... CSUB won both relays (200 medley and 400 free) with Jordan Reed (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) winning the 1m and the 3m diving events ... the Roadrunners host Fresno Pacific Saturday beginning at noon.

Denver (2-1)
The University of Denver women's swimming and diving team defeated UNLV 152.5-146.5, but fell to No. 3 Arizona 204-86 at Buchanan Natatorium in Las Vegas, Nev. ... sophomore Bridgette McNally recorded a pair of dual victories over UNLV, finishing the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:53.31 and the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:01.54 ... Samantha Corea (Vancouver, British Columbia) topped UNLV for two dual victories as well, taking the 100 Backstroke (54.83) and the 100 Butterfly (55.26) ... the Pioneers will return home next Saturday, taking on Colorado School of Mines and Idaho.

Idaho (1-1)
Last time out, sophomore Rachel Millet won three individual events and junior Megan Venlos and freshman Jamie Sterbis both won two as the University of Idaho Swimming and Diving team defeated conference foe Seattle University, 175-86  ... the Vandals won 14 events, giving them their first WAC win of the season ... Millet won the 50-, 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events ... she also won three individual events last week against Boise State University ... Idaho will face off against the Air Force Academy Nov. 2, at Colorado Springs, and against the University of Denver, Nov. 3 at Denver.  

New Mexico State (1-0)
The New Mexico State swimming and diving team takes its first road trip of the 2013-13 season to Albuquerque, N.M. ... The Aggies face New Mexico, Colorado State and San Diego State in a four-team, two-day meet, Friday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. ... NM State opened the 2012-13 regular season with a 155-145 win over Air Force, Oct. 13 ... The Aggies won 10 events in the victory.

North Dakota (3-2)
Last time in the pool the UND women's swimming and diving team defeated rival University of South Dakota, 155-133 ... Veronica Medon outdistanced the field in the 100 backstroke, touching in 57.73, part of her three first-place finishes on the day ... she also took the 200 backstroke (2:05.15) in convincing fashion and won the 100 butterfly in 58.75 ...  Kara Fisher scored nine points for her team with the win in the 100 freestyle (53.24) ... UND will next compete at Kansas, facing the host Jayhawks and TCU on Nov. 2-3.

Northern Arizona (2-0)
In their previous meet juniors Emma Lowther and Rachel Palmer each won two events as NAU won seven individual races and took the 400 freestyle relay to end the meet and score a 152-148 win over New Mexico ... the Lumberjacks have now defeated Arizona State of the Pac-12 and New Mexico of the Mountain West in their two meets thus far ... senior Kristy Ardavanis was the top Lumberjack finisher on both boards, placing second on 1-meter at 319.28 and third on 3-meter with a score of 322.58 ... both of those scores already qualify Ardavanis for the NCAA Zone meet after her first competition of the year. 

Northern Colorado (0-1)
The Bears lost a close 165.5-134.5 decision to Air Force Academy, quite a bit closer than last year's 81 point spread ... senior Sara Moldenhauer, one of four seniors honored prior to the meet, won both the one and three-meter diving events for the Bears ... she scored 268.65 points on the one-meter board to beat teammate Kelsey Smith at 250.87 ... junior Gina Riggle was one of three other individual champions for the Bears, winning the 100 breast in 1:05.86 ... the Bears will face WAC rival Northern Arizona Saturday, Nov. 3.

San Jose State (1-1)
The San Jose State Spartans women's swimming and diving team is looking for their second win of the season, going up against the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs (0-0) on Saturday ... it will be the first home meet of the season and features eleven races, however there will be no diving ... the meet begins at 12:00 p.m. at The Aquatic Center on the SJSU campus.

Seattle U (0-3)
Kevlyn Richards won both breaststroke events, and fellow captain Karla Ruff added a victory in the 200 individual medley in the Redhawks 202-86 loss to CSU Bakersfield ...  Richards posted a faster time than she did in either of last weekend's meets in the 100 breaststroke, posting a mark of 1:04.59 ...  in the 200 breaststroke, the Redhawks claimed the top four positions, led by Richards with a season-best time of 2:18.61 ... the Seattle University women's swim team will host past Redhawk swimmers in an alumni meet next Saturday, Oct. 27, at 12 p.m. ... the next official competition is Saturday, Nov. 10, against long-time rival Simon Fraser.

Athletes of the Week 

San Jose State's Marisa DeWames and Amy Kilby have been named the Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 22-28.

DeWames, a senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif. (Westlake H.S.), finished first in the three events in which she competed as San Jose State defeated UC Davis, 208-92, to even its record at 1-1. DeWames swam to a  new pool record and helped her relay team achieve another at UC Davis. She won the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.62, breaking the old pool record of 51.37. DeWames anchored the San Jose State 200 medley to a time of 1:43.62, notching her second pool record. Individually she also won the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 1:51.38.

Kilby, a senior from Oklahoma City, Okla. (Putnam City North H.S.), posted NCAA Zone qualifying marks in the 1-meter and 3-meter events in San Jose State's dual meet victory over UC Davis. The Spartan senior finished second in the 1-meter and first in the 3-meter with scores of 267.90 and 300.98 respectively. Kilby set a personal best in the 3-meter with her first career 300-plus point score. 

Other swimmers nominated: CSU Bakersfield freshman Michaela Paige, Denver sophomore Bridgette McNally and Northern Colorado junior Gina Riggle.

Other divers nominated: CSU Bakersfield senior Jordan Reed and Northern Colorado senior Sara Moldenhauer.
