The Aggies swept the Redhwaks (25-18, 25-21, 25-19) Saturday night to remain in sole possession of first place in the WAC standings. With the win, Utah State improves to 15-7 overall and 10-2 in the WAC. Seattle U falls to 7-14 on the season and 2-9 in WAC play.
The Aggies hit .305 on the match and held the Redhawks to just .065. USU also had more kills (40-34), assists, (39-31), digs (53-51) and blocks (10-1).
Shay Sorensen led all players with 13 kills to go along with nine digs. Paige Neves dished out 36 assists, while Josselyn White and Ashlan Rogers had 11 digs apiece.
Kaytlyn Dill led Seattle U with 10 kills, while Sarah Jaeckel had 10 digs.
New Mexico State 3, Louisiana Tech 1
New Mexico State bounced back from its loss on Thursday with a 3-1 win (25-10, 18-25, 25-16, 25-18) over Louisiana Tech Saturday in the Thomas Assembly Center. With the win, the Aggies move to 14-7 on the year and 8-3 in WAC play. The Lady Techsters drop to 3-20 overall and 0-11 in the WAC.
The Aggies hit .328 on the match, compared to the .151 of LA Tech. NM State also had more kills (52-44), assists (49-40), digs (55-44) and blocks (10-7).
Meredith Hays tallied a match-high 16 kills and added eight digs, while Desiree Scott had 13 kills on .684 hitting to go along with nine blocks.
The Lady Techsters were led by Tiffany Thomas and Clara Vido with 11 kills apiece.
Idaho 3, San Jose State 1
The Vandals defeated the Spartans in four sets (25-17, 26-24, 23-25, 25-) in WAC action Saturday. With the win, Idaho improves to 10-11 on the season and 8-3 in the WAC. San Jose State drops to 10-12 on the year and 6-6 in WAC play.
Idaho out-hit the Spartans .290 to .080. The Vandals also had more kills (55-46), assists (50-43), digs (77-69) and blocks (14-2).
Allison (Walker) Baker and Alyssa Schultz had 11 kills each, while Alex Sele added 10. Baker also had 15 digs for her 15th double-double of the season. Schultz was just shy of a double-double with nine blocks.
Mary Alice O'Reilly led SJSU with 11 kills, while Hanah Blume and Alex Akana had 10 apiece.
Texas State 3, UTSA 2
Texas State fought past UTSA in five sets Satirday (19-25, 25-20, 27-29, 27-25, 15-13). With the win, the Bobcats improve to 11-11 overall and 6-5 in the WAC. Meanwhile, UTSA drops to 13-8 overall and 6-5 in WAC play.
Texas State hit .210 on the match, compared to the .231 of the Roadrunners. Both teams finished with 68 kills, but the Bobcats edged UTSA in assists (63-58). The Roadrunners had more digs (86-81) and blocks (8-7).
Alexandra Simms and Amari Deardorff both tallied 16 kills to lead Texas State. Caylin Mahoney posted a double-double of 25 assists and 11 kills, while Ashlee Hilbun finished with 11 kills, 11 digs and six blocks for her second double-double of the season. Patti Bradshaw recorded a career-high 20 digs.
UTSA was paced by McKenzie Adams' 20 kills and 13 digs. Brittney Malloy added 15 kills, while Paige Hamilton had a match-high 22 digs.
Denver 3, UT Arlington 1
Denver won its fourth straight match Saturday, defeating UT Arlington in four sets (23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23). With the win, the Pioneers improve to 12-9 on the season and 6-5 in the conference. The Mavericks fall to 8-15 overall and 4-7 in WAC play.
Denver out-hit UTA .259 to .136. The Pioneers also had a season-high 71 kills compared to the 48 of the Mavericks. DU also out-blocked UTA 13-8.
Colleen King led all players with 19 kills, while Faimie Kingsley added 12 and Michele Swope had 11. Kate Acker had a match-high 24 digs.
UTA was led by Shelby Dickson with 11 kills and 18 digs.
