DENVER - Utah State's Kyle McKenna and New Mexico State's Courtney Schultz have been named the Western Athletic Conference men's and women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 8-14.
McKenna, a junior from Farmington, Utah (Viewmont H.S.), was both the top finisher for the USU men and the top finisher from the WAC with his 51st-place finish at the NCAA Pre-National meet at E.P 'Tom' Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., last weekend. McKenna clocked in with a time of 24:03.9 in the 8K seeded men's race as he competed against 272 runners from 40 different Division I teams, including No. 8 Oregon and No. 5 BYU. He also has been the top Aggie finisher at all four meets in 2012.
Schultz, a senior from Cloudcroft, N.M. (Cloudcroft H.S.), finished first overall for all scoring individuals with a time of 17:00.5 in the women's 5K at the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif., on Saturday, Oct. 13. This is the second time this season Schultz has finished first overall and the fourth time she has finished first for N.M. State. Schultz assisted the Aggies to a third-place finish, defeating nationally ranked PAC-12 schools Colorado and UCLA.
