New Mexico State remained unbeaten in WAC play with a sweep (25-22, 25-19, 25-16) of Denver in the Pan American Center Saturday. With the win, the Aggies improve to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the WAC. The Pioneers fall to 8-7 on the season and 2-3 in WAC play.
The Aggies hit .321 as a team and held Denver to .238. NM State also had more kills (46-41), assists (40-36), aces (6-2) and digs (45-43). Both teams had six blocks.
Preslie Alexander posted a match-high 13 kills on a career-high .706 hitting. Desiree Scott hit .538 with eight kills and two blocks. Meredith Hays posted a match-high 12 digs.
The Pioneers were led by Colleen King with eight kills and Kate Acker with 11 digs.
Utah State 3, UT Arlington 0
Utah State posted a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 27-25) sweep of UT Arlington Saturday afternoon at UTA's College Park Center in WAC action. USU improves to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in WAC play with the victory. With the loss, UT Arlington is 6-11 overall and 2-3 in WAC action.
Utah State hit .284 for the match, compared to the .121 of UT Arlington. The Aggies also had more kills (48-33), assists (44-31), aces (5-1) and digs (47-38). The Mavericks out-blocked Utah State 7-6.
Josselyn White tallied a season-high 17 kills and Shay Sorensen added 11 kills. Ashlan Rogers logged 15 digs, while McKell Staheli registered 13 digs. Paige Neves dished out a match-best 40 assists.
Taylor Gross and Amy Davault led the Mavericks with eight kills apiece. Amanda Welsh dished out 29 assists.
Idaho 3, UTSA 1
Led by a career-high 29 kills from Allison (Walker) Baker, Idaho overcame a first-set loss to beat UTSA 3-1 (20-25, 28-26, 25-13, 25-22) in Memorial Gym Saturday night. The Vandals improve to 6-10 overall and 4-2 in the WAC with the win. The Roadrunners fall to 10-5 on the season and 3-2 in the conference.
The Vandals hit .229 in the match and held the Roadrunners to a .195 hitting percentage. Idaho owned a 14-8 advantage in blocks, and a 9-3 advantage in service aces. UTSA out-dug the Vandals 89-86.
Baker hit .329 and added 10 digs in the match for her 11th double-double of the season. Alex Sele finished with 13 kills and seven blocks, while Janelle Chow tallied 25 digs. Jenny Feicht posted a double-double of 41 assists and 18 digs.
McKenzie Adams led UTSA with 21 kills and 13 digs. Whitney Walls added 16 kills, while Annie Kunes finished with 25 digs.
Texas State 3, Seattle U 0
Texas State snapped a three-match losing skid Saturday, defeating Seattle U 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 27-25) at the Connolly Center. The win was the first WAC road win of the season for the Bobcats and marked the first time a WAC opponent had swept the Redhawks.
The win moves Texas State's record to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the WAC, while Seattle U drops to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in conference action. The win was also No. 750 for head coach Karen Chisum, the sixth winningest active head coach in NCAA Division I.
The Bobcats out-hit the Redhawks .188 to .080 and out-blocked them 11-4.
Alexandra Simms led all players with 11 kills, while Amari Deardorff added nine and Ashlee Hilbun had eight. Hilbun led the team at the net with six blocks, while Molly Ahrens had five. Laura Whalen finished with a match-high 13 digs.
Kaytlyn Dill led Seattle U with 11 kills and 10 digs.
San Jose State 3, Louisiana Tech 0
San Jose State swept Louisiana Tech (25-17, 25-20, 25-21) Saturday in WAC action. With the win, the Spartans improve to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference. LA Tech falls to 3-14 on the season and 0-5 in WAC play.
Samantha O'Connell led all hitters with 12 kills, while Hanah Blume hit .417 for the match with 10 kills. Mary Alice O'Reilly added eight kills.
Kiely Pieper had a team-best 13 digs, while Michaela Leonard had 27 assists and seven digs. Krista Miller finished with 11 digs, while Alex Akana led the team with five blocks.
The Lady Techsters were led by Clara Vido with nine kills and 11 digs.
