New Mexico State remained the only unbeaten team in WAC play with a sweep of UT Arlington (25-17, 25-19, 25-19) at the Pan American Center Saturday. The Aggies are now 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the WAC, while the Mavericks drop to 5-10 on the season and 1-2 in WAC play.
NM State ended the day with a .306 hitting percentage, compared to the .054 of UTA. The Aggies also out-blocked the Mavericks 13-3.
Meredith Hays posted a match-high 12 kills on .393 hitting, while Nathalie Castellanos had eight kills on .583 hitting. Hannah Walker had a match-high 12 digs for the Aggies, while Stephanie Ziegler added 10.
The Mavericks were led by Ashley Bennett and Taylor Gross with eight kills each.
Idaho 3, Utah State 0
Idaho picked up its first road win of the season Saturday night with a sweep of Utah State (25-14, 25-15, 25-22) in Logan, Utah. With the win, Idaho improves to 4-10 overall and 2-2 in WAC play. The Aggies drop to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the WAC.
The Vandals hit a season-high .352 in the match, compared to the .096 of the Aggies. The Vandals owned a 9-4 advantage in blocks.
Ashley Christman led all players with a career-high with 13 kills on .756 hitting. Allison (Walker) Baker finished with 11 kills and six digs.
Shay Sorensen paced the Aggies with eight kills.
Denver 3, Louisiana Tech 0
Denver swept its second straight WAC opponent, topping Louisiana Tech 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 in Hamilton Gymnasium Saturday night. The victory moves the Pioneers to 8-5 on the year and 2-2 in WAC action. The Lady Techsters fall to 3-12 overall and 0-3 in the WAC.
Denver hit .370 on the match and held LA Tech to .061. The Pioneers doubled up the Lady Techsters in kills (48-24) and also had more assists (47-23), digs (50-25) and blocks (10-6).
Michele Swope and Cassie Ronda each tallied a match-high 12 kills, while Colleen King had 11. Ronda also finished with a match-high .550 hitting percentage, while Swope posted 11 digs for a double-double.
Clara Vido and Caitlin Germany topped the Lady Techsters with five kills each. Maria Coelho tallied 21 assists, while Ana Rodrigues had nine digs.
San Jose State 3, Seattle U 2
The Spartans rallied to defeat the Redhawks in five sets, 16-25, 25-22, 25-22, 16-25, 15-8 Saturday in San Jose. With the win, San Jose State improves to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the WAC. Seattle U falls to 6-8 on the season and 1-3 in WAC play.
The Redhawks hit .273 on the match, compared to the .189 of the Spartans. But Seattle U committed eight service aces in the match.
Mary Alice O'Reilly led San Jose State with 17 kills. Alex Akana added 12 kills, while Janah Blume and Samantha O'Connell had 11 apiece. Blume added 10 digs for a double-double. Michaela Leonard dished out 51 assists to go with 13 digs.
Kaytlyn Dill led all players with 18 kills to go with 10 kills. Lani Beadle had a match-high 24 digs.
