New Mexico State defeated Idaho in five sets (25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 16-25, 15-8) Saturday for its second-consecutive five-set win. With the victory, the Aggies improve to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the WAC. The Vandals drop to 3-9 on the season and 1-1 in WAC play.
As a team, NM State posted a season-high 62 kills, compared to the 53 of Idaho. The Aggies also had more assists (56-48) and service aces (6-4), while Idaho had more digs (55-52) and blocks (12.5-10).
Meredith Hays posted a match-high 22 kills, while Lauren Loerch added 13. Hannah Walker had 16 digs to lead all players.
Idaho was paced by Allison (Walker) Baker with 14 kills and 12 digs. Alyssa Schultz added 13 kills and nine blocks.
Utah State 3, Texas State 0
Behind Shay Sorensen's match-high 15 kills, Utah State swept Texas State (25-23, 25-15, 29-27) Saturday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum in WAC action. With the win, USU improves to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in WAC play for the first time since 1997. The Bobcats fall to 6-7 on the year and 1-1 in the WAC.
Utah State hit .286 for the match, compared to the .154 of Texas State. The Aggies posted 11 total blocks.
Sorensen pounded out her 15 kills on a .353 hitting percentage and added 12 for her second-straight double-double and fourth of the season. Josselyn White and sophomore Rachel Orr notched nine kills apiece. Paige Neves dished out a match-high 35 assists, while Ashlan Rogers logged 17 digs.
Texas State was led by 10 kills apiece from Amari Deardorff and Alexendra Simms while Molly Ahrens added two blocks. Caleigh McCorquodale posted 15 digs to go with 14 assists while Caylin Mahoney notched 21 assists.
UTSA 3, San Jose State 1
McKenzie Adams registered 24 kills and 14 digs to lead UTSA to a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 30-28) victory over San Jose State Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center. With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 7-4 on the season and 1-1 in the WAC. The Spartans drop to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Adams, who recorded her seventh double-double of the season, netted 14 of her kills in the final two frames. Brandy Huskey posted her seventh double-double of the campaign with 42 assists and 15 digs, while Whitney Walls chipped in with 11 kills. Junior Paige Hamilton paced the defensive effort with 19 digs.
San Jose State had two players earn double-doubles, including Krista Miller, who posted a match-high 20 digs to go along with her 12 kills. Hanah Blume added 17 stops and 12 kills, while Alex Akana turned in a team-high 15 killls.
Seattle U 3, Denver 2
Seattle U rallied from a 2-1 match deficit to defeat Denver 3-2 (19-25, 25-16, 16-25, 25-12, 15-13) for its first-ever WAC victory. With the win, the Redhawks improve to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Pioneers fall to 6-5 on the season and 0-2 in the WAC.
Seattle U edged Denver in hitting (.128 to .106), but was out-blocked 19-5.5 by the Pioneers.
Sarah Jaeckel led Seattle U with 14 kills, while Karina Miastkowska added 10. Jacquie Brice notched her second double-double of the season with 40 assists and 12 digs to go along with three service aces, and libero Lani Beadle finished with 18 digs.
Colleen King led all players with 18 kills, while Faimie Kingsley notched a double-double of 10 kills and 13 blocks. Pioneer libero Lyndi Johnson posted a match-high 19 digs.
UT Arlington 3, Louisiana Tech 1
UT Arlington earned its first WAC win in program history with a 3-1 victory (25-16, 25-14, 18-25, 25-14) over Louisiana Tech Saturday. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 5-8 overall and 1-0 in the WAC. The Lady Techsters fall to 3-10 on the year and 0-1 in league play.
The Mavericks out-hit LA Tech .287 to .173. UTA also had more kills (59-49), assists (53-42), digs (77-66) and blocks (8-3).
Shelby Dickson and Amy Davault both notched double-doubles. Dickson had 12 kills and 19 digs, while Davault tallied 13 kills and 14 digs.
Clara Vido led Louisiana Tech with match highs of 15 kills and 22 digs, while Fenix Calderon added 13 kills and 10 digs.
