New Mexico State 3, Seattle U 2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-12)
New Mexico State came from behind to defeat Seattle U in five sets (21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-12) to take the opening match of WAC play Thursday in the Connolly Center. With the win, NM State moves to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Redhawks fall to 5-6 on the year and 0-1 in conference play.

NM State got the win despite being being out-hit .206 to .092. In addition, Seattle U had more kills (59-52), assists (55-47), aces (13-3) and digs (79-65). But the Aggies dominated the net, out-blocking Seattle U 23-9.

Desiree Scott posted a career-high 12 blocks and Meredith Hays tallied a match-high 18 kills. Lauren Loerch added 13 kills, while Hannah Walker had a match and career-high 22 digs.

Seattle U was paded by Kaytlyn Dill with 17 kills and 17 digs.


Utah State 3, UTSA 1 (25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20)
Rachel Orr led all players with 18 kills as Utah State defeated UTSA 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20) in WAC play Thursday night. With the win, the Aggies improve to UTSA 6-4 overall and 1-0 in the WAC. The Roadrunners drop to 6-4 on the year and 0-1 in league play.

Paige Neves dished out 39 assists, while Ashlan Rogers posted 27 digs for Utah State.

McKenzie Adams led UTSA with 17 kills, 19 digs and four blocks. Brandy Huskey tallied 39 assists, while Brittney Malloy and Kylie Schott posted seven blocks each.


Texas State 3, San Jose State 1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 28-26)
The Bobcats opened WAC play with a come-from-behind win over San Jose State, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 28-26). With the victory, Texas State improves to 6-6 overall and 1-0 in WAC play. The Spartans fall to 4-6 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

Texas State benefited from a significant advantage in the serving department as the team finished with seven aces compared to just five serving errors. Meanwhile, the Spartans committed 13 serving errors, two of which led to match points for Texas State in the fourth set. The Bobcats also out-blocked SJSU 11.5-6.

Ashlee Hilbun led Texas State with a career-high 13 digs to go along with five blocks. Alexandra Simms had a team-best nine kills, followed by Amari Deardorff with eight.

Mary Alice O'Reilly led all players with 18 kills, while Michaela Leonard posted a double-double of 52 assists and 10 digs for the Spartans.


Idaho 3, Denver 0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-22)
Idaho snapped a seven-match losing skid with a sweep of Denver (25-22, 25-12, 25-22) Thursday night to open WAC play. With the win, the Vandals improve to 3-8 overall and 1-0 in the WAC. Denver falls to 6-4 this season and 0-1 in the WAC.

The Vandals hit a season-high .290 and finished with 48 kills. DU tallied 32 kills on .204 hitting. Both teams finished with eight blocks.

Four Vandals had double-digit kills in the match. Ashley Christman led the team with a career-high 13 kills on .455 hitting, while Allison (Walker) Baker finished with 12 kills. Alex Sele matched her season high with 11 kills and hit .474 in the match, while Alyssa Schultz had 10 kills and hit a career-high .750. Ryann Carter did the setting for Idaho, finishing with 43 assists and a career-high four aces, while Janelle Chow had a team-high 16 digs.

Denver was paced by Colleen King and Faimie Kingsley with seven kills each.
