NM State and Utah State Win Openers

New Mexico State 49, Sacramento State 19
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Andrew Manley threw for 367 yards and three touchdowns to lead New Mexico State to a 49-19 win over Sacramento State in the season opener for both teams.

Two of Manley's scoring strikes went to Austin Franklin, who finished with eight catches and 236 yards for the Aggies. The touchdowns covered 54 and 83 yards. Manley, who was 14 for 22, also connected with Jerrel Brown for a 50-yard score.

Garrett Safron threw two touchdown passes for the Hornets, who trailed 28-3 but closed within 28-19 before New Mexico State scored three TDs in the fourth quarter. Safron finished with 308 yards passing for Sacramento State.

Utah State 34, Southern Utah 3
LOGAN, Utah -- Joe Hill rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns and Chuckie Keeton completed 22 of 26 passes for 304 yards and two scores as Utah State rolled to a 34-3 season-opening victory over Southern Utah on Thursday night.

Utah State built a 21-0 first-quarter lead as Keeton threw scoring passes to Chuck Jacobs of 48 yards and Matt Austin for 35 yards. Hill reached the end zone from 27 yards out to make it 21-0 and the Aggies were not challenged after that.

Utah State's defense pressured Southern Utah quarterback Brad Sorensen most of the night. He completed just 12 of 31 passes for 153 yards and an interception, and was sacked twice.
