DENVER – Idaho’s Alycia Butterworth and Hawai‘i’s Karen Guravska have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 30-May 6.
Butterworth, a sophomore from Parksville, British Columbia (Ballenas Secondary), was the second collegiate finisher in the steeplechase at the Oregon Twilight on Saturday, posting a career-best 10:18.78. Her time leads the WAC by over 37 seconds and ranks 11th in the NCAA West Region and 31st in the nation in the event so far this year. The time also puts her at third in Idaho history in the event.
Guravska, a senior from Riga, Latvia (Cerritos College), captured the javelin title at the Oxy Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday with a career-best throw of 150 feet, four inches (45.82 meters). Her mark currently leads the WAC and ranks No. 2 all-time in the event in school history. Guravska also competed in the high jump, posting the ninth-best mark in the conference so far this season.
