ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (April 2-8)
DENVER –
Fresno State’s Marianne Jodoin has been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, for the week of April 2-8.

Jodoin, a sophomore from Varennes, Quebec (Ecole Georges High School), went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles.  The 47th-ranked singles player picked up two wins at the No. 1 spot, improving her record to 14-3 on the season. Against Miami, she earned the only Bulldog singles victory when she bested No. 18 Anna Bartenstein, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Against FIU she defeated Rita Maisak, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 1 doubles, she and partner Laura Pola fell to No. 24-ranked duo of Liat Zimmerman and Melissa Bolivar, 8-4 and then beat FIU’s Maisak and Sarah McLean, 8-2. The sophomore was named Fresno State’s Sysco Athlete of the Week.

Other women’s nominees included: Hawai’i senior Barbara Pinterova… Idaho sophomore Sophie Vickers … Nevada junior Sophie Stevens … Utah State freshman McKenzie Davis.

WAC IN THE RANKINGS
Two WAC teams are ranked in the April 10 ITA Rankings. Fresno State is at No. 53 and Hawai’i checks in at No. 55

Fresno State’s Marianne Jodoin is the lone ranked singles player in the WAC, at No. 47 in the nation.

FRESNO STATE
Last week, No. 53 Fresno State went 1-1, falling to No. 7 Miami, 5-2, and defeating Florida International, 4-3.

This week, the Bulldogs return home to face Pacific on Sunday.

HAWAI’I
No. 55 Hawai’i earned two WAC wins on the weekend, defeating Utah State, 6-0, on Friday and San Jose State, 7-0, on Sunday. The wins wrapped up the regular season for the Rainbow Wahine.

UH will not be in action again until the WAC Championships, which will take place April 26-28 in Las Cruces, N.M.

IDAHO

Idaho defeated Weber State, 7-0, last Friday to improve to 15-5 on the season.

This week, the Vandals host two matches. WAC foe Nevada comes calling on Friday and Oregon visits on Saturday.

LOUISIANA TECH

Last week, Louisiana Tech defeated Alcorn State, 5-2, to improve to 12-5

This week, LTU will host Houston on Friday and then travel to Southern on Saturday.

NEVADA
Last week, Nevada earned two wins, defeating UC Davis, 5-2, and Pacific, 6-1.

This week, Nevada travels to the Northwest for two duals, facing conference opponent Idaho on Friday and Gonzaga on Sunday.

NEW MEXICO STATE

Last week, New Mexico State fell to San Jose State, 4-3, on Wednesday and to Santa Clara, 5-2, on Thursday.

This week, New Mexico State is off. The Aggies face Western New Mexico on April 18.

SAN JOSE STATE
San Jose State went 2-1 last week. The Spartans grabbed two conference wins, over New Mexico State, 4-3, and Utah State, 5-2. The Spartans fell to WAC foe Hawai’i, 7-0, on Sunday to fall to 3-1 against conference opponents.

This week, the Spartans travel to UC Davis on Sunday.

UTAH STATE
Utah State went 0-3 during a three-dual road trip to Hawai’i last week. The Aggies fell to Hawai-Pacific (6-1) on Wednesday, Hawai’i (6-0) on Thursday and to San Jose State (5-2) on Friday.

This week, the Aggies host Idaho State on Tuesday.
