Louisiana Tech and Nevada Pick Up Season-Opening Wins

Louisiana Tech 80, Texas-Pan American 62

EDINBURG, Texas (AP)-- Olu Ashaolu scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on Saturday as Louisiana Tech cruised past Texas-Pan American 80-62 in the season opener for both teams.

Ashaolu went six of eight from the field and six of eight from the line to lead all scorers.

Kyle Gibson added 16 points for Louisiana Tech, DeAndre Brown had 13 and Magnum Rolle had 12.

Texas-Pan American was held to just under 43 percent shooting. Jared Maree and Luis Valera led the Broncs with 10 points each.


Nevada 75, Montana State 61

RENO, Nev. -- Luke Babbitt scored a game-high 26 points as Nevada cruised past Montana State 75-61 in the season opener for both teams Saturday night.

Armon Johnson added 16 points for the Wolf Pack.

Erik Rush scored 13 points to lead Montana State.

Johnson scored all of his points in the first half and Babbitt added 13 as Nevada built a 50-31 halftime lead. The Wolf Pack made 7-of-11 3-pointers in the opening half.

Cody Anderson and Bryan Louff each had 10 points for Montana State.

The Bobcats played with just eight players because two starters (Marquis Navarre and Will Bynum) are ineligible for the first three games of the season after participating in an unsanctioned basketball event this summer.


Montana 95, Boise State 82

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP)-- Anthony Johnson sank eight free throws in the final minutes and finished with a game-high 25 points to lead the University of Montana to a 95-82 victory over Boise State Saturday night.

A pair of late technical fouls called against the Broncos gave Johnson four extra trips to the line. Both technicals were handed out in the final 1:19 with the Grizzlies clinging to an 85-78 advantage.

Johnson finished perfect from the foul line, sinking 14-of-14. Raason Young added 22 points in the win.

Montana (2-0) jumped out to their biggest lead at 67-50 early in the second half, before the Broncos stormed back with a 21-4 run to knot the game at 71-71.

Okoye led Boise State (1-1) with 20 points and nine rebounds.
