MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Louisiana Tech shot just 29 percent from the field and fell 67-60 to Memphis Tuesday night at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
Despite shooting just 27 percent in the opening 20 minutes, Tech (1-1) found itself leading 28-27 at the half thanks to a trio of late three-pointers by Tiawana Pringle, Whitney Jones and Brietta Thomas.
However, the cold streak continued in the second half as Memphis outscored Tech 40-32 to pull away for the seven-point win.
Shanavia Dowdell led Tech with 16 points and 10 rebounds but only shot 5-of-13 from the field. Whitney Jones added 14 points, but was only 6-of-21 from the field.
For the game, Tech hit only 29 percent (23-of-79) of its field goals while Memphis shot 46 percent (25-of-54). The Lady Techsters forced 25 Memphis turnovers but it only led to 17 points in the game.
GREELEY Colo. — On a night when the Spartans made more free throws than field goals, San Jose State lost at Northern Colorado, 101-63, Tuesday night in a non-conference match at Butler-Hancock Arena.
San Jose State made 24 free throws in the game while making just 19 field goals. The team shot 36 percent from the field on the game. In the second half, the Spartans made 17 free throws, compared to nine field goals.
Ashley Brown led the Spartans in scoring with 13 points. Leading scorer Natalie White was held to just four free throws made in the game and was 0-for-8 from the field, the first time since her sophomore year that she did not make one field goal.
RENO, Nev. – Nevada fell 81-63 to BYU Tuesday night. With the loss, Nevada falls to 1-2 this year while BYU improves to 1-1.
Nevada was led by Dellena Criner, who scored 20 points. Brandi Jones added 14 points.
Nevada finished the game shooting 38 percent from the floor but just 14 percent (2-of-7) from three-point range. Cherlanda Franklin grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for Nevada. BYU ended the game shooting 47 percent from the floor.
MOSCOW, Idaho - Idaho played a competitive first half in the team’s home opener against Montana Tuesday, but the Vandals couldn’t get it going in the second and fell 55-36 to the Lady Griz.
Idaho (0-2) shot just 27 percent (11-of-41) from the floor, while Montana (2-0) hit 34 percent (20-of-59) of its shots. Montana was also 8-of-22 from beyond the three-point arc, while Idaho was just 1-of-13.
Derisa Taleni led Idaho with 17 points, seven of which came from the free throw line, but no other Vandal player had more than five. Taleni also added seven rebounds and one steal. Junior Charlotte Otero had a career-high five steals, but managed just one point and one assist on the day. Sophomore Yinka Olorunnife had eight rebounds, but just four points.
