Boise State Claims 2008 WAC Gymnastics Championship

Boise, ID—In what ended up as one of the closest WAC Gymnastics Championships of all-time, top to bottom, Boise State claimed its first-ever title, recording an all-around team score of 194.925.

 

Besides the team honors, Boise State also claimed numerous individual awards. Freshman Hanna Redmon earned WAC Gymnast of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, while BSU head coaches Neil Resnick and Tina Bird were named WAC Co-Coaches of the Year.

 

Redmon took the all-around title at the event with a score of 39.225. She also earned an individual title on vault with a 9.875 and tied for the floor title with Utah State’s Megan Tschida with a 9.925.

 

Southern Utah’s Kellie Dangerfield won the balance beam title with a score of 9.875, while BSU’s Lindsay Ward claimed the bars championship with a 9.875.

 

San Jose State followed closely behind Boise State in second place with a score of 194.725.  Southern Utah placed third with a score of 194.575, followed by Sacramento State in fourth at 194.275. Utah State finished fifth with a score of 194.150 and Cal State Fullerton placed sixth at 192.650.

Live Web Streaming

The Western Athletic Conference, in conjunction with its Web site partner JumpTV Sports, has announced it will stream all four events simultaneously of the 2008 WAC Gymnastics Championships, Saturday, March 29. Viewers can sign up by visiting www.WAC.tv.

 

The championship will be held at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho and begins at 6:00 p.m. (MT). Viewers will be able to select which event they want to watch as there will be streams available for the vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor exercise. The meet can be viewed for a subscription price of $10.95 that will include access to all four streams (only one viewable at a time) and on-demand viewing of any of the events beginning the next day.
