Five WAC softball players have been voted to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District teams.

Hawai'i's Kelly Majam and Stephanie Ricketts, Brigham Young's Stacie Toney, Fresno State's Brooke Ortiz and Louisiana Tech's Erin Kipp were all named to the first team and now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Majam, a junior from Pine Valley, Calif., has started all 45 games this season for the Rainbow Wahine and leads the team with 11 home runs. A secondary education major with a 3.85 grade-point average, this is the second straight year she has earned the honor.

A senior from San Jose, Calif., Ricketts has a 25-3 record, a 1.02 ERA and 202 strikeouts on the season. She has earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors five times this season. A psychology major with a 3.35 GPA, she is a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.

Toney, an elementary education major with a 3.77 GPA, has a .366 batting average and 35 RBI this season. She has 18 multiple-hit games on the year.

An interior design major with a 3.88 GPA, Ortiz leads the Bulldogs in batting average (.313). She has started all 51 games with 21 runs and 15 RBI. The Lodi, Calif., native has 11 multi-hit games this year and had a 10-game hitting streak earlier this season, which ties for the longest on the team this year. She was named the Verizon WAC Hitter of the Week on April 9.

Kipp, a pitcher/outfielder from Bullard, Texas, boasts a 3.85 GPA as a biology major. She is hitting .294 on the year and has a 5-7 record in the circle.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America honors, a player must have completed at least one academic year, must be a starter or significant reserve, must have a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and must have completed at least one full academic year at her institution. Voting is done by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
