DENVER – Texas-Pan American’s Martin Casse and Utah Valley’s Michael McPherson have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 14-20.

Casse, a senior from Toulouse, France (Lycee-Toulouse Lautrec), won the 1,500-meter run at the Mt. Sac Relays with a time of 3:44.92, which is the second fastest in program history, behind only his own time. Casse beat 120 other runners in the race. Casse's time in the 1500 is good for 31st in the NCAA West Region. He added a 12th place finish in the 800-meter run at the Beach Invitational after posting a time of 1:51.49.

McPherson, a junior from Parker, Colo. (Chaparral Parker HS), placed second in the decathlon at the Mt. SAC Relays/California Invitational Multi Events, setting a new UVU school record in the process. McPherson broke the 12-year-old school record with 7,271 points, which also put him just 10 points shy of winning the event. Out of the 10 total events in the decathlon, McPherson won three of them, as he took first in in the 100-meter dash (10.76), the long jump (7.22m) and the 400m dash (48.07). He also finished second in the 110m hurdles (14.89) and the 1500m run (4:34:50), and fourth in the high jump (1.96m) and the pole vault (4.30m).
