WAC Men's Basketball Preseason Media Poll, All-WAC Teams Announced
DENVER – The 2012-13 Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball media poll has tabbed Utah State as this year’s favorite. Utah State junior guard Preston Medlin has been named the preseason Player of the Year. Utah State junior forward/center Jarred Shaw was tabbed this year’s preseason Newcomer of the Year.
   
Utah State received 232 points and 15 first-place votes. New Mexico State was picked second with 223 points and eight first place votes. Denver garnered 181 points and one first place vote for third place followed by Louisiana Tech with 162 points. Idaho was fifth with 144 points followed by UT Arlington with 137 points and one first place vote. UTSA was seventh with 104 points, followed by Seattle U (77) in eighth, San Jose State (61) in ninth and Texas State (54) in tenth.
 
Medlin receives the preseason media Player of the Year honors after finishing the 2011-12 season averaging 17.0 points, 3.4 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game. He earned first team all-WAC honors last season.

Shaw, this season’s media Newcomer of the Year, is a transfer from Oklahoma State. Shaw played in 26 games as a sophomore at OSU, averaging 1.2 points and 1.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 50 percent from the field.

The All-WAC team included Medlin, Louisiana Tech sophomore guard Raheem Appleby, Idaho senior center Kyle Barone, New Mexico State sophomore guard Daniel Mullings and Denver junior forward Chris Udofia.
