FRESNO, Calif. - (FS Media Relations) The Fresno State baseball team recorded its third shutout of the season behind a stellar pitching performance in a 4-0 defeat of Louisiana Tech, Saturday evening at Beiden Field.

Senior Gene Escat got the win in relief, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing only two hits. Senior Taylor Garrison came in with runners on second and third in the top of the ninth to record two strikeouts and capture his 10th save of the season.

"Gene has really given his heart and soul to this team for the last five years," said head coach Mike Batesole. "And Taylor did a great job to finish off the game."

SAN JOSE, Calif. - (NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State baseball team (34-20, 10-7 WAC) won its third straight game win by beating San Jose State (22-28, 5-12 WAC) 4-2 at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, Calif., Saturday, May 19.

The Aggies knocked the Spartans out of any hope to get into the 2012 Western Athletic Conference tournament, and helped their own cause by picking up another league win.  Starting right-hand pitcher Adam Mott got off to a slow start but earned the win going 7 1/3 innings throwing 125 pitches.  Senior Scott Coffman gutted it out throwing an inning to pick up his eighth save of the year.

"He (Mott) is a big strong kid who came in and took care of business today. We got a very good outing from Adam," head coach Rocky Ward said.  "San Jose is a very unique team and one thing they have done this year is score late, so it was good that we could get this win today."

– (Sacramento State Media Relations) The Sacramento State baseball team was out-hit 16-4 on Friday afternoon and lost to UNLV, 12-0, in the first game of a non-conference series at John Smith Field.

The loss snapped the Hornets' four-game winning streak as they defeated Saint Mary's and swept Hawai'i in a three-game series last week. It was also only the second time this season that Sacramento State was shutout and the first since the Hornets lost 1-0 at UC Riverside on March 10.

The Hornets (29-24) play the Rebels twice more this weekend to close out the regular season. Sacramento State has clinched a spot on the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in Mesa, Ariz., next week, but won’t know its seed until two other series conclude.
