Verizon WAC Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced - Feb. 28
Ayoun, a senior from Creteil, France (Lycee Darsonval), along with partner Jean-Charles Diame, clinched the point for the ‘Dogs with their victory over No. 63 UNLV’s Johannes Markel and Rene Ruegamer, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles. Ayoun later earned the first Bulldog singles victory of the day when he bested Charlie Alvarado, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 5 spot. He was the only Bulldog to have a perfect record for the day, as the Bulldogs picked up a 5-2 victory. He has been a driving force behind the Bulldog’s eight-game winning streak and climb to the No. 25 spot in the nation. The senior has an impressive 9-1 record for the season in singles, with a win against No. 9 Stanford, and a 4-3 record in doubles.
Knox, a senior from West Richland, Wash. (Portland State), had a perfect 4-0 combined record last weekend as Idaho picked up two victories. She won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4, over Morgan Anderson of Brigham Young and dominated 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles against Samantha Teigen of Lewis Clark-State College. At No. 2 doubles Knox, with teammate Sophie Vickers, won 8-5 over BYU’s squad of Anderson and Desiree Tran, and won 8-3 over LCSC’s duo of Teigen and Florencia Martina.
Other men’s nominees included: Utah State freshman Matt Sweet.
Other women’s nominees included: Louisiana Tech junior Rymma Maslova … New Mexico State senior Manon Sylvain.
