The Tulsa, Okla., native led the Spartans to wins over Nevada and Fresno State, snapping the Bulldogs’ 19-game WAC winning streak. She opened the week with a game-high 23 points to go with six rebounds and three assists against the Wolf Pack. Against Fresno State, Johnson tied the program single-season record for double-figure scoring games with 27 when she posted her eighth double-double of the season with game highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Her 17th point, on a free throw with three seconds left, was the game winner. It was San Jose State’s first two-game, regular-season sweep of Nevada since 2005-06 and its first win over Fresno State in 20 tries, dating back to the 2002-03 season.
Other nominees included: Fresno State’s Rosie Moult averaged 15.5 and 6.5 rebounds per game as the Bulldogs went 1-1 on the week ... Kanisha Bello of Hawai‘i averaged 12.0 points as the Rainbow Wahine went 1-1 on the week ... Idaho’s Alyssa Charlston finished with 17 points and eight rebounds in a loss to Utah State ... Tavasha Anderson of Louisiana Tech tied her career high with 17 points to go with five rebounds and three assists in a win over New Mexico State ... New Mexico State’s Tabytha Wampler finished with 14 points and five rebounds in a loss at LA Tech ... Devyn Christensen of Utah State scored 26 points on 62 percent shooting to go with five rebounds, five steals and three assists in a win over Idaho.
