2008 WAC Tournament Bracket (Final)
Fresno State won its third-straight Western Athletic Conference Tournament championship,
defeating third-seeded Nevada 6-4 on championship Sunday. Third baseman Tommy Mendonca
led the Bulldogs with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including two RBI. Holden Sprague picked up
the win for Fresno State, goinig 5.1 innings with three strikeouts. Steve Susdorf was named the
tournament's most valuable player for his efforts throughout the week.

WAC Tournament Day 3 Recap
No. 3 Nevada defeated No. 2 Hawai‘i 12-7 to advance to championship Sunday. Terry Walsh led the Packwith a 5-for-5 performance at bat with three runs scored. Jason Rodriguez was also impressive for the
Pack, going 4-for-5 with four RBI. Brock Stassi pitched 7.1 innings with seven strikeouts to pick up the
victory. Brandon Haislet led the Rainbows with a 4-for-4 plate performance.
No. 3 Nevada advances in the tournament after defeating No. 6 Sacramento State. Jason Sadoian led the
Pack with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate with a home run, four runs scored and two RBI. Mario Rivera
picked up the win on the mound for Nevada, pitching 6.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Sacramento State's
Wes Oberlin and Blake Crosby each went 2-for-4 in the game.
No. 1 seed Fresno State advanced to Sunday's championship game with an 11-4 victory against No. 2
Hawai‘i. The loss sends the Rainbows into the loser's bracket, where they will take on the winner of
today's second game between No. 3 Nevada and No. 6 Sacramento State. Alan Ahmady led the Bulldogs
with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including a home run and four RBI. Jason Breckley picked up the
win on the mound for Fresno State, pitching 4.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts and one earned run.

In the nightcap, No. 2 Hawai‘i defeated No. 3 Nevada 14-5. Hawai‘i's Brandon Haislet led the Rainbows with a
4-for-6 performance at the plate. Haislet had a home run with three RBI. Jeffrey Van Doornum
also had an impressive night, collecting three hits and a home run with five RBI. Joshua Schneider picked up
the win for the Rainbows, going 7.1 innings with three strikeouts. Matt Bowman led Nevada with a 3-for-3
performance at the plate.
Gabe Jacobo went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored a pair of runs while David Flores hit a three-run homer as
No. 6 Sacramento State won its first-ever WAC tournament game, defeating No. 5 New Mexico State 8-5 in
Friday's first game of the day. Tommy Elrod picked up the win on the mound for the Hornets in 3.1 innings
of work. New Mexico State's Joe Leghorn led the Aggies with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
Sacramento State moves on to play the loser of the Hawai‘i/Nevada game.
In game two, top-seeded Fresno State downed No. 4 San Jose State 7-3. WAC Player of the Year Steve
Susdorf led the Bulldogs with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with a home run and four RBI. Clayton Allison
picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs, going 6.0 innings with three strikeouts. Brandon Burke
registered his ninth save of the season. Jason Martin led San Jose State at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an
RBI. Fresno State now moves on to play the winner of the Hawai‘i/Nevada game. San Jose State is eliminated
from the tournament.

Top-seeded Fresno State downed No. 6 Sacramento State 3-2 in the first game of the 2008 WAC Baseball
Tournament. Justin Wilson improved his record to 6-4 on the season, going 7.0 innings with a pair of
strikeouts while giving up only one earned run. Tommy Mendonca led the Bulldogs with a pair of hits while
Ryan Overland knocked in two runs. Tim Wheeler led Sacramento State with two hits on the day.
In game two action, No. 2 Hawai‘i defeated No. 5 New Mexico State 11-7. Hawai‘i's Landon Hernandez went
3-for-4 with a run scored. Jeffrey Vandoornum had a pair of hits and drove in three runs. Vinnie Catricala
and Derek DuPree hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Rainbows recorded
a six-run inning, helping the team secure the win. New Mexico State's Leo Aguirre kept the game within reach,
hitting a grand slam in the top of the eighth.
In the night cap, third-ranked Nevada defeated No. 4 San Jose State 11-0 in seven innings. Nevada catcher
Tyson Jaquez tied a WAC Tournament individual record with three home runs as he knocked in five runs on
the night. Rod Scurry picked up the win on the mound for the Pack, going the complete game 7.0 innings
without allowing a run.

WAC Baseball Tournament Notes
The 2008 WAC Baseball Tournament is being held at 3,500-seat J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park
in Ruston, Louisiana. This marks the first time that Louisiana Tech has hosted the WAC Tournament.
The top six teams during the regular season qualify for the double-elimination event with the winner
earning the WAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Las season, Fresno State won its second-
straight WAC Tournament title, cruising through the event without a loss. The Bulldogs moved on to
the national postseason play, where they advanced to the NCAA regional finals.
