FRESNO STATE’S ROSS VERIZON WIRELESS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Fresno State junior guard Jaleesa Ross has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Ross and the fourth of her career.

Ross, a Pinole, Calif. (Pinole Valley) native, led Fresno State to a pair of road wins last week to move into second place in the WAC standings. In a 63-60 win at UC Irvine, she had 17 points, a team-high nine rebounds and two steals. She followed it up with 17 points, a career-high-tying 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals in a win at Loyola Marymount. It was Ross’ second double-double of the season and of her career. For the week, she averaged 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. With six three-pointers last week, Ross moved her career total to 213, 10 away from sixth place in the WAC and second place in the Fresno State career record books for three-pointers made.

Other nominees included: Hawai’i’s Keisha Kanekoa averaged 8.0 points and 3.7 assists in three games last week ... Louisiana Tech’s Shanavia Dowdell averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in the Techsters’ close losses to No. 7 LSU and No. 8 Baylor … Shavon Moore of Nevada averaged 18.0 points and 7.7 rebounds as the Wolf Pack went 1-2 on the week … New Mexico State’s Jasmine Lowe scored a career-high 29 points on 60 percent shooting in the Aggies’ 92-85 loss to New Mexico … Alice Coddington of Utah State averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 steals per game on the week.

LA TECH RANKED EIGHTH IN MID-MAJOR POLL
After close losses to No. 11/7 LSU and on the road at No. 8/8 Baylor, Louisiana Tech is ranked seventh in the Dec. 7 Mid-Major Poll. Xavier (7-0) is No. 1, followed by Gonzaga, Dayton, Hartford, Temple, Wisconsin-Green Bay and James Madison. Of the Techsters’ Shanavia Dowdell, Graham Hays says, “She is right there with Erica Beverly as a slightly undersized post player deserving of more attention.”

ROSS MOVES TO SEVENTH IN WAC HISTORY IN THREE-POINTERS MADE

Fresno State’s Jaleesa Ross currently has 213 three-pointers in her short career, good for third place all-time at Fresno State and seventh all-time in the WAC. She needs 10 more to move into second place at Fresno State and sixth in WAC history. At her current pace, Ross will easily break the Fresno State record of 272.

NEVADA BREAKS CENTURY MARK AGAINST SACRAMENTO STATE

Christina Gough’s three-pointer with 19 seconds remaining in the game pushed Nevada more than 100 points for the first time since 1986 as the Wolf Pack beat Sacramento State 101-72 last Wednesday at Lawlor Events Center. The last time Nevada scored above the century mark was March 1, 1986, when it defeated U.S. International 104-97.

BOISE STATE BRONCOS (7-2, 0-0 WAC)
The Broncos saw their seven-game win streak snap last week as they dropped a pair of road games at Oregon (88-61) and Portland (76-65) ... Jessica Van Hoogen and Tasha Harris led Boise State with 15 points each vs. the Ducks ... The Broncos had a season-high 26 turnovers and went 8-of-18 (44 percent) at the free throw line at Oregon ... Van Hoogen scored a game-high 23 points vs. the Pilots ... Boise State shot a season-low 30 percent at Portland ... The Broncos lead the WAC in rebounding (42.9) and steals (12.8) ... Harris and Van Hoogen rank third and fourth in the WAC, respectively, with 17.2 and 16.7 points per game ... The Broncos host Montana State on Wednesday before playing their final non-conference road trip of the year at Saint Mary’s on Saturday ... Montana State is coached by former Boise State great Tricia (Bader) Binford, who was a standout for the Broncos from 1991-96.

FRESNO STATE BULLDOGS (5-3, 0-0 WAC)

The Bulldogs defeated UC Irvine (63-60) last Thursday and Loyola Marymount (82-68) on Saturday ... Against UC Irvine, Jaleesa Ross had 17 points and nine rebounds ... Emma Andrews had a career-high 23 points at LMU ... Ross posted her second double-double of the season with 17 points and a career-high-tying 11 rebounds vs. the Lions ... Adrian Wiggins earned his 100th career win at Loyola Marymount, becoming only the second women’s basketball coach in Bulldog history to reach that feat ... Ross currently has 213 three-pointers on her career, 10 shy of second place on the Fresno State and sixth on the WAC career lists ... The Bulldogs rank sixth nationally with 9.0 three-point field goals per game ... Fresno State has made at least one three-pointer in 72 straight games ... The Bulldogs host Sacramento State on Tuesday and UNLV on Saturday.

HAWAI’I RAINBOW WAHINE (3-5, 0-0 WAC)

The Rainbow Wahine beat San Francisco 58-48 last Thursday before going 1-1 at the Hukilau Tournament over the weekend, where they beat BYU-Hawai’i 76-46 on Friday and fell 81-44 to Brigham Young on Saturday ... In the win over the Dons, UH’s first home win of the season, Leilani Galdones led a balanced offensive attack, scoring 10 points, while Keisha Kanekoa finished with nine points, six rebounds and four assists ... Hawai‘i’s bench outscored USF’s bench 26-7 ... Against the Seasiders, Katie Wilson led Hawai’i with 17 points and five rebounds, going 6-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line ... Dita Liepkalne added 16 points and six boards, while Allie Patterson had 10 points ... In the loss to BYU, Julita Bungaite led the way with 10 points and five rebounds ... The Rainbow Wahine are idle until Dec. 19, when they compete in the UNLV Desert Classic in Las Vegas.

IDAHO VANDALS (1-8, 0-0 WAC)
Idaho lost to Colorado State (65-55), Wyoming (61-55) and Saint Mary’s (74-67) last week ... In the loss to the Rams, Rachele Kloke went 6-of-14 from the field and scored 16 points with seven rebounds and a career-high-tying three assists ... Yinka Olorunnife blocked a career-high five shots vs. CSU ... Against the Cowgirls, Shaena-Lyn Kuehu had her best outing of the season with 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds ... Kanisha Bello added 13 points and five-rebounds ... Kloke had a game-high 19 points vs. the Gaels ... Bianca Cheever added 16 points, Kuehu had 12, and Olorunnife scored 10 points to go along with her team-high seven rebounds ... Idaho ranks 20th nationally with 8.0 three-pointers per game and 29th with 15.1 personal fouls per game ... The Vandals host Portland on Friday and play at Montana on Sunday.

LOUISIANA TECH LADY TECHSTERS (3-2, 0-0 WAC)

The Techsters fell to No. 11/7 LSU (77-74) and lost on the road at No. 8/8 Baylor (77-67) last week ... Shanavia Dowdell had 26 points, seven rebounds and four blocks vs. LSU ... LA Tech shot 59 percent from the field and scored 46 second-half points vs. LSU, a team that was allowing 45 points per game coming into the contest ... Against Baylor, Dowdell scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds ... Tech shot 49 percent from the field and scored 43 points in the second half against Baylor, a team that led the country in field goal percentage defense ... In the 72 minutes that Dowdell was on the floor last week, LA Tech outscored the two Top 10 teams 128-126 while being outscored 28-13 during the eight minutes she was off the floor... Tech plays at Western Kentucky Wednesday and hosts Mississippi State Saturday night.

NEVADA WOLF PACK (5-4, 0-0 WAC)

The Wolf Pack defeated Sacramento State 101-72 last Wednesday, before falling at Arizona (84-57) and to UNLV (74-63) ... Shavon Moore scored a career-high 21 points, Holly Jones scored a career-high 14 points and Kayla Williams recorded a career-high 13 rebounds against Sacramento State ... Nevada’s 101 points against the Hornets were the most by a Pack team and the first time Nevada scored at least 100 points since 1986 ... Moore led Nevada with 17 points vs. the Wildcats ... Marianne Lombardi played in her 100th career game at Arizona ... Moore recorded her seventh career double-double and second of year with 16 points and 11 rebounds against UNLV ... Nevada ranks fourth nationally in three-point field goal percentage defense (20.2), 41st in steals (10.9) and 47th in blocks (4.6) ... The Wolf Pack are idle until Dec. 18, when they play at Pepperdine.

NEW MEXICO STATE AGGIES (4-3, 0-0 WAC)

The Aggies fell 92-85 to instate rival New Mexico last Wednesday in their only game of the week ... Jasmine Lowe scored a career-high 29 points on 9-of-15 (60 percent) from the field and 5-of-6 (83 percent) from three-point range ... Crystal Boyd added 16 points and 11 boards for her first double-double of the season ... The Aggies shot a season-high 45 percent from three-point range and a season-high 95 percent from the free throw line, hitting 22-of-23 ... As a team, NM State ranks 20th nationally in free throw percentage (77.0), 32nd in three-point field goals per game (7.4) and 49th in scoring offense (73.4) ... Lowe ranks sixth nationally in three-point field goal percentage (58.3), while Danisha Corbett is 47th in three-point field goals per game (2.7) ... The Aggies host North Dakota State on Saturday in their only game this week ... It is the sixth game in a seven-game home stand for NM State.

SAN JOSE STATE SPARTANS (1-7, 0-0 WAC)

San Jose State fell to Loyola Marymount (66-47) and Denver (66-61) last week ... In the loss to the Lions, San Jose State was outscored 14-3 at the free throw line ... Against Denver, Samantha Marez scored a season-high 19 points, while Shaunna Ridge had 15 points and six boards ... Sayja Sumler and Chasity Shavers both chipped in 10 points to give the team four double-digit scorers ... The Spartans lead the WAC in rebounding defense (33.4) and rank third in both field goal percentage (40.8) and three-point field goal percentage (34.8) ... Shavers currently ranks seventh in the WAC in scoring with a 13.5 average. She has reached double-figure scoring in seven of the eight games this season ... The Spartans play at No. 22/22 California on Wednesday in their only game this week ... The Golden Bears have won 18-straight meetings, dating back to the 1982-83 season.

UTAH STATE AGGIES (3-3, 0-0 WAC)

The Aggies fell to Pepperdine (67-46) and Idaho State (56-53) at the Arizona State Classic last weekend ... Against the Waves, Amber White led the team with 14 points for her fourth double-digit scoring game this season ... Lydia Whitehead and Banna Diop both pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds, while LaCale Pringle-Buchanan had a career-high five steals ... In the loss to the Bengals, Alice Coddington scored a team-high 14 points and added eight steals and four assists ... The eight steals ranks tied for sixth in the Utah State single-game record books ... The Aggies rank 28th nationally in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 54.8 points per game ... White leads the WAC in three-point field goal percentage (66.7), while Coddington is second in steals (2.67) and Whitehead is third in rebounding (7.7) ... The Aggies play at Idaho State on Friday in their only game this week.
